About Us

The Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan (FCCP) is a constitutionally established judicial institution mandated to strengthen constitutional governance and provide authoritative adjudication of constitutional matters in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

The Court was established in November 2025 through the Twenty-Seventh Constitutional Amendment, under Articles 175F and 175L of the Constitution of Pakistan. This landmark reform represents a significant evolution in Pakistan’s judicial framework by creating a specialized constitutional forum dedicated exclusively to the interpretation, enforcement, and preservation of constitutional provisions.

Pursuant to this amendment, the original constitutional jurisdiction was transferred from the Supreme Court of Pakistan to the Federal Constitutional Court, ensuring focused, efficient, and expert adjudication of constitutional questions, free from the burden of ordinary appellate litigation.

The Federal Constitutional Court formally commenced its constitutional functions on 13 November 2025. On 14 November 2025, Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan took oath as the first Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan at Aiwan-e-Sadr, administered by the President of Pakistan. The oath-taking ceremony was attended by senior members of the judiciary and other distinguished dignitaries.

At its inception, six Judges were appointed to the Court, ensuring representation from all provinces of Pakistan. The initial bench comprised:

  • Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi

  • Justice Aamir Farooq

  • Justice Ali Baqar Najafi

  • Justice Muhammad Karim Khan Agha

  • Justice Rozi Khan Barrech

  • Justice Syed Arshad Hussain Shah

Under a Presidential Order dated 13 November 2025, the temporary premises of the Federal Constitutional Court were formally inaugurated on 12 January 2026 by the Honorable Chief Justice. Following renovation and functional enhancements, the Court’s facilities now provide a modern, secure, and purpose-built judicial and administrative environment to support the effective dispensation of constitutional justice.

Core Constitutional Functions

The principal functions of the Federal Constitutional Court include:

  • Resolution of disputes between the Federation and the Provinces (Article 175E(1))

  • Enforcement of Fundamental Rights (Article 175E(3))

  • Adjudication and authoritative interpretation of constitutional questions (Article 175E(5))

  • Preservation of constitutional supremacy and the federal balance

Today, the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan stands as a guardian of the Constitution, committed to upholding the rule of law, safeguarding constitutional values, and ensuring the dispensation of justice strictly in accordance with the Constitution and the law.
